Volume XXXIX No. 1

September 2017

President’s Message:

Welcome Back Ladies.

As September nears, I am excited to welcome back all IEWC members to another year of fabulous luncheons, entertaining programs, festive fundraisers and a spectrum of fun field trips.  Our luncheon meetings are a way to connect with our friends and neighbors and to pursue common enthusiasms, share ideas and simply enjoy each other.  I believe our club is unique.  It has a unique warmth and friendliness that makes our events comfortable and enjoyable.  We appreciate our members and we continue to welcome new members who bring fresh, new and welcomed ideas.

During the summer, your Board and Committee Chairs have worked diligently to plan and select old favorites and new beautiful venues with interesting programs.  Many of them came from your ideas on the questionnaire you completed in April and we thank you for your suggestions.  We announced in May that all club lunches will be $25.00 except for the October and March Fundraising lunches.  The meetings are listed on our website at http://www.islandestateswomensclub.org, in your IEWC Yearbook and in your monthly newsletters.  The popular yearbook will be distributed at the September and October meetings.  Please mark the dates on your calendar so you won’t miss all the fun and camaraderie.

We hope you are ready for our popular October “Pink is Beautiful” Fundraiser for the Pinellas Mammography Voucher Program.  This is always a well-attended, social gathering.  Last year we raised $7,259!  Bravo ladies!!!  We are starting to plan for this celebrated event to be held on Tuesday, October 17th at the Island Way Grill.  If you have items to donate or gift cards, please contact Debbie Christofferson at (719)393-3283.

Vital to the club’s success and enjoyment is our loyal membership and our active board and committee chairs that give their time and expertise to our club.  I want to thank the board and committee chairs for all their hard work and hours they spend on behalf of our membership.

My thanks to you for your support, trust and confidence in electing me to be your president.  My sincere thanks to you also for the thoughtful gift certificate you bestowed on me in May.  I am honored by your support and will promise to continue to work hard to make this year, a great, fun-filled and interesting year for all.

A Message from Debbie Christofferson, Fundraising Chair

I wanted to give you some wonderful updates about our upcoming “Pink Is Beautiful” Breast Cancer Fundraiser.  Lynne and I have been working hard to rally for donations for our Breast Cancer Fundraiser on October 17th, 2017!

The event will be held again at Island Way Grill and we are proud to say this is one of our most successful events!

Prizes will include gift certificates from hotels, local restaurants and retail businesses.  We also have designer handbags and travel gift baskets.  We have just named a few of the donations so far.  We are working on more.  Last October’s 2016 breast cancer fundraiser, collected over $ 14,314.00 in prizes.  We had 213 items for raffle, pick-a-prize, silent auction, and of course the “Pink is Beautiful” bazaar.

We are reaching out to our members, businesses and friends of friends to ask for help with our fundraiser for donations.  You may have people that would like to help.  If you can help us in any way to achieve our goals for a successful fundraiser we would be grateful!  We are hoping this will be another banner year and there will be lots of prizes to be won and a successful amount of funds to be donated to the MVP.  This program provides the needed breast cancer mammogram screenings for a community of ladies that cannot otherwise afford this service.  If you can help us market for donations your help will be awesome and so appreciated.

This event is very close to all of our hearts.  Someone we know or even ourselves has had to experience this tragedy.  Early detection is a major focus and early screening makes it treatable in many cases.

Lynne, I and our board members are reaching out to any members for help with this fundraiser.  We need ladies to help with follow-up calls, picking up gift certificates or prizes that have been donated.  We will also need help prior to the event with packing and wrapping and also working the event the day of the luncheon.

To all of our new members that would like to get involved, this is a great way to meet new people and help at the same time.  Please reach out to me or Lynne if you would like to get involved.

Sincerely and gratefully thanking you,

Deborah Christofferson

IEWC Board and Committee Chair Persons for 2018-2019

As we kick off a new club year it is an important time to remind all of you that most of your board and chairs will fulfill their term in office this year.  Many have served two consecutive terms.  Although each of us has enjoyed the experience, it is time for fresh ideas and “new blood”.  Please think seriously about serving on the Executive Board or as a Committee Chairperson.  Our board meetings, the first Tuesday of each month, are open to members and we encourage you to attend a board meeting and see if you might enjoy serving in one of the positions.  We want the club to prosper and grow and hope each of you will think seriously about helping.  If you have any questions, please contact your President, Lynne McCaskill (727-430-1911) or anyone on the nomination committee: Linda Dorn (727-808-2255) or Leeley Myers (727-223-5790).
