Volume XXXIX No. 3

November 2017

President’s Message:

Dear Ladies:

Bravo and thank you to all who generously contributed and attended the successful 10th “Pink Is Beautiful” October 2017 Fundraiser.  It was a phenomenal event!!!  All the money we raised will be donated to the Pinellas Mammography Voucher Program (MVP).  We surpassed our fundraising goal by raising over $7,200!  And money is still coming in!!  Outstanding success!

Our wonderful members and guest enjoyed a fabulous event at the scenic Island Way Grill.  Everyone looked glamorous in their pink attire and judging by the radiant smiles and laughter, all 93 ladies had a great time.  We were delighted and touched to open the event with a beautiful bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace by Dr. Pat Snair.  The ladies all held hands to show they are united in their fight against breast cancer.  There was not a dry eye in the house.  It was certainly very special!

Thank you to all who made the October “Pink Is Beautiful” Fundraiser for the MVP an incredible “pink” success.  Many members spent months getting ready for the event.  A special thank you to Debbie Christofferson for chairing the event.  Please join me to thank your board and others who spent many hours securing prizes, wrapping and organizing them as well as working the successful event.

Ladies, you certainly showed your passion with your charitable donations by purchasing prizes at the Pick-A-Prize and Ribbon Tree and your generous bids for the awesome Silent Auction Prizes.  I hope that each of you felt great satisfaction knowing that because of YOU and our very generous merchants the club contributed in excess of $7,200 to the Pinellas Mammography Voucher Program.  The program is for women, age 30-49, who cannot afford care by providing them the ability to get critical diagnostics and vital procedures.  The IEWC had a proud history of helping women in our local community fighting this horrendous disease.  We are making a difference!!!  As you redeem your prizes, please do remember to thank the businesses for their fabulous donations.

It is time to look ahead to Thanksgiving and reflect on all the wondrous gifts, family, friends, and experiences that we have been given in our lifetime.  Ladies, let us all enjoy our camaraderie again on Tuesday, November 14th at the brand new hotel and restaurant The Edge on Clearwater Beach with its spectacular views of the Gulf of Mexico.

Please join us to celebrate our good fortune and be grateful together on November 14th.  I hope to see you then.

November Luncheon

Local author BonSue Brandvik joins us for lunch in November at “The Edge” on Clearwater Beach to tell us about the awesome four book series “Spirits of the Belleview Biltmore.”  Once her fight to save the hotel was lost…to maintain the historical significance of the hotel, she wrote a series of four books.  They are a delightful mix of fiction and a lot of facts about the grand old hotel.  I read the first of the series “Pearls” and I am currently into the second book “Ripples”.  They are an amazingly interesting look at the history of the hotel and the ghost stories she researched with former guests of the hotel and employees who worked there for many years.  The author arranged all of this around a number of fictional characters to create a totally entertaining read.  Her talk is entitled “The 20 real ghosts of the Belleview Biltmore.”  We are in for a thrill with her visit!  Her books will be available after her talk and she has graciously offered to sign them for us.  Don’t miss this one!  See you there.

November Field Trip - Calypso Queen - Dinner Cruise and Music

On November 8th, we will sail away into the sunset with our awesome crew of the Calypso Queen!  Tickets are $40.00 and will include a Tropical Island Buffet with an amazing menu, complimentary beer, wine, rum punch and sodas, as well as additional bar choices and the house D.J.

We meet at the boat at 5:30 PM and sail at 6:00 PM, returning approximately 8:30 PM, back to the beach Marina.

Please join us for this beautiful evening cruise!

Send Luncheon Reservations to IEWC c/o Wendy Bouffard, 421 Palm Island SE, Clearwater, FL  33767. The deadline for reservations is 12 noon on Wednesday, November 8th.  There will continue to be a drop off box at the Horizon House in the Lobby.  We cannot refund money for cancelled reservations after the deadline because of commitment to the facility providing our program.

Luncheon Reservations

Ladies we need your help in getting your reservations in for the club lunches and field trips on time.  It is unfortunate but we have had to turn down members who desire to attend, but get their reservations in too late.  The restaurants give us a deadline for the food orders and it is imperative we stick to the time and give them the exact information.

As a reminder, Lunch reservations are due the Wednesday at noon prior to the Tuesday Luncheon.  All reservations and payments are sent to Wendy Bouffard at 421 Palm Island SE, Clearwater, FL  33767; or put in the IEWC mailbox at 31 Island Way no later than noon on the Wednesday prior to the luncheon.  If you are mailing your reservation, please send it earlier to insure Wendy receives it in time.  Thank you.

Dear Island Estates Women's Club Ladies, Guests and Donors,

I wanted to thank everyone for a wonderful successful “Pink Is Beautiful” luncheon fundraiser for the MVP event.  I am always touched and moved by everyone’s support.  Each year we get bigger and bigger and are able to help additional ladies with free mammograms and change women’s lives.

IEWC makes a difference and impacts our community with our generosity.  We are very proud of all the support, volunteering and fundraising that everyone pitches in to do.  My little pink hat is off to everyone for a job well done!

Drum Roll$$$$$--We raised in excess of $7,200.00.  We all are so happy and really appreciate all of you.   What amazing support from you and all our businesses that help us each year!

In addition, the Clear Sky coupons for $10.00 are still valid and will be honored.  It was an oversight that they are expired.  Our apologies for any trouble this may have caused.

IEWC Board ad Chair Persons for 2018/2019 Year

We need you!  As previously mentioned most of your board and chairs will fulfill their term in office this May 2018.  Many have served to consecutive terms and will be retiring.  We want the club to succeed and continue to run smoothly.  If you have an interest in joining the board, please join our monthly board meetings.  It is important to understand not only how the club runs but the culture.  The warmth, camaraderie and selected fundraisers have taken years to develop into the successes they now are!

Although each of us has enjoyed the experience it is time for fresh ideas and “new blood”.  Please think seriously about serving on the Executive Board or as a Committee Chairperson.  Our board meetings, first Tuesday of each month, are open to members and we encourage you to attend a board meeting and see if you might enjoy serving in one of the positions.  We want the club to prosper and grow and hope each of you will think seriously about helping.  If you have questions, please contact your President Lynne McCaskill (727-430-1977) or anyone on the nominations committee: Linda Dorn (727-808-2255) or Leeley Myers (727-223-5790).
